Cobalt Blue

Cobalt Blue is a glaze the Owen family has used for over 4 generations. Early salt glaze wares made in the late 1800s were decorated with a cobalt blue glaze over a grey salt finish. For decades, Ben Owen Pottery has created Cobalt Blue pottery using a uniform coating of the glaze on the surface of each pot. Today, Ben uses a glaze similar to that older glaze. His Cobalt Blue is notably glossier and reveals a depth to the finish. Sometimes this Cobalt Blue is used to accentuate pieces that are fired in the wood kiln, a multi-layered use of glazes which can include ash.
