Cabernet

Cabernet glaze is a variation of Chinese Blue glaze, with only one type of copper used to achieve this pigment. Our Cabernet glaze is influenced by the Copper Red glazes which originated during the Ming Dynasty in 12th century China. The red color is created by introducing carbon or depriving the atmosphere of oxygen early on in the firing process. Exposure to the smoky, less oxygen-deprived atmosphere converts the copper glaze from what would typically be a green glaze into a rich wine-red color.
