The annual firing of the Peters Valley anagama, “Emily,” will be led by Ben Owen III for August 2022, located in Layton New Jersey. For the past 20 years, noted artists from around the world have led the firing, and this year we are honored to offer the opportunity to fire with Ben Owen III, from Seagrove, North Carolina. This firing promises to be a fascinating and special experience. Participants will bring bisque-fired HIGH temperature stoneware or porcelain works to be included in the kiln. Some slips and glazes will be available for participants to use before the loading. Techniques for loading the kiln will be covered, including the use of wadding, tumble-stacking, and positioning of the wares in order to promote the most dynamic flame marks. The firing requires at least five days and nights with emphasis placed on cooperation, collaboration. and working together to achieve a beautiful and successful result.
* The unloading of the kiln will take place on Sunday, August 21st.
