Ben will be leading a clay workshop at Penland School of Crafts July 26, 2026 - August 7, 2026. This workshop will focus on throwing, glazing, and wood-firing original work. Demonstrations, discussions of historic and contemporary works, experimentation, and individual instruction will take your work to the next level. Sectional throwing, coil-and-throw, and throw-and-alter techniques will be demonstrated and encouraged. We will use glazes and slips that work in a wood-fired atmosphere, and together we will fire the multi-chambered wood kiln. We will work with stoneware, white stoneware, and porcelain. Salt/soda effects will be used in the last chamber of the kiln. Intermediate advanced: basic wheelthrowing experience required. Upper clay studio.
Patricipants will be able to bring some cone 10 bisque ware for the wood firing. Details will be provided by Penland Clay Studio.
Registration opens on January 14th.
